It was started at 1979 by Mrs. Harjit Pritpal Singh. After having worked in Bishop Cotton School for 13 years and heading the Junior Section there, she left in 1977 and got started with Shimla Public School and worked single handedly for many years. It was because of her long hours of work and extreme dedication that SPS came to be recognised amongst the top few schools of Shimla. There are approximately 800 children in the school and 46 Teachers.
